Boarding FAQs

Boarding FAQs

Any questions you might have regarding our boarding, you can find the answers here!

Where can I take my dog for boarding?

Our Sangster Rd (Magaliessig) branch is the only branch for dogs and it caters for all sizes. The small dog village has been specifically built with the smaller dog’s comfort in mind.

Where can I take my cat for boarding?

We have two branches for cats to board at: Sangster Rd (Magaliessig) and 33 Devonshire Ave, Bryanston. All the runs have both inside and outside areas for each cat with astroturf inside and a garden on the outside. Scratch posts and astroturf are provided in each run as well as an assortment of toys. All the cat runs are completely enclosed and escape proof.

What are the operating hours for drop off and collection?

We are open from 06:45 - 18:00 on weekdays at both venues and 08:00 - 17:00 on weekends and public holidays at Sangster Rd. The hours differ at Devonshire Ave due to the fact that this is residential. The hours are strictly from 08:00 - 09-00 and again from 16:00 - 17:00 on weekends and public holidays. We are closed for collection and drop off at both venues on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Day and Easter Sunday. The kennel staff are still on duty at the kennels to take care of all the boarding dogs and cats.

Is there someone on the property 24/7?

We have three kennel hands who live on the property 24/7 plus our security guard who monitors the property all night. He is connected to the main security response room which is 5 mins away from the kennels. There is a sophisticated alarm system and cameras all around the property which the guard has access to all night. If there is load shedding the whole system is connected to a generator and battery system.

What is the cost of boarding?

As there are different scenarios, please go to “Book Boarding” on our website for accurate pricing.

Where do my pets sleep?

Dogs:
Each run has an enclosed house which is fully insulated against heat and cold. The runs are fitted with raised beds so the dogs are not lying on the ground.

Cats:
Each self contained run has a cat “box” for the cats to sleep in, with a sheepskin donut inside. The runs at Sangster Rd have heaters in each run and special openings in the ceiling for the very hot days to allow the air to circulate. The Devonshire Ave runs are air conditioned, cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Do the cats share with other cats?

Cats unlike dogs are not social creatures so we do not put cats from other families together in the same run. However if you have 2 or more cats in your family, we can put them together in the runs. If there are 3 or more cats in one family then they can be booked into one of the cabanas at Devonshire Ave. These cabanas can house 3 - 6 cats in one cabana.

Can I bring my pet’s own bed?

Dogs:
You are welcome to bring a bed, but if your dog is in a social run the possibility of it being used as a toy at night is very high.

Cats:
You are welcome to bring their bed and blankets if you feel your cat will be more comfortable with their own bed.

What else do I need to bring with my dog?

You only need to bring their food, we have everything else

Will my dog be with dogs of the same size?

Yes your dog's will be placed with dogs of the same size. We do not mix sizes unless specifically requested. The new “Tiny Dog Village” has been specifically designed for tiny to small dogs, however there may be an occasion where an old or arthritic dog might be placed in one of the runs during the cold or rainy season.

What about my puppy?

Puppies up to 4 months of age and breed-size dependent go to the “Tiny Dog Village” at Sangster Rd, where they enjoy puppy socialisation with other puppies of their own age.

Are my dogs allowed to socialise with the other dogs?

As long as your dog is social, he/she will be placed with dogs of similar sizes in runs together where they play together. During their day, our trainers let each run out into the play areas to have some fun training, run around and play on the adventure playground or in the dams.

What if my dog can’t be with other dogs?

We have solo runs for dogs that are unable to be with other dogs in a social environment. They get taken for walks, have some fun training from our experienced trainers,  play in the play area on their own and with their owner’s permission, they also get to swim in the dam.

Do the dogs get any training whilst boarding?

The dogs get one-on-one training for about 20mins each. All our trainers use positive reinforcement. No punishment is allowed. You can also ask for specific training for your dog(s) whilst they are with us. There is a cost for this.

Can I leave my dog at boarding for concentrated training?

Yes we take dogs into our boarding facility and work with them on improving the unwanted behaviour. You will be required to attend a training session at the end of your dog's stay with us in order for you to see exactly how we have trained and what we have taught your dog.

What is the cost for in-house specific training?

R310/day inclusive

Will my cat(s) have human interaction during their stay.

Yes, Aphelele is in charge of the cattery and spends a lot of time playing and interacting with the cats in the cattery. You can also ask for your cat(s) to be brushed during the day.

Do you accept unsterilised pets?

Dogs:
Whilst we prefer all our dogs to be sterilised after the age of 7 months, we can accept older dogs but they need to have an assessment before we place them with other dogs. If we feel this won’t work then they will be placed in an individual run.

Cats:
We only accept unsterilised cats under certain circumstances after the age of 8 months. We do not accept female cats in season

Do you have facilities for bitches in season?

Unfortunately not. As we have a lot of dogs boarding in a social environment, we are not able to have a bitch in season on the same property as it would cause fights and dogs trying to get over our fences.
